How to Always Make the Right Decision: A Somatic Guide

Making decisions can be challenging, especially when we're caught in a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. However, by harnessing the wisdom of our bodies through somatic practices, we can access deeper insights and make choices that align with our true selves.


What is Somatics?

Somatics refers to practices that focus on the body's internal experiences. It encompasses the ways we can connect with our physical selves to understand and influence our mental and emotional states. By tuning into your body, you can unlock a more intuitive way of making decisions that are in harmony with your well-being.


The Somatic Decision-Making Process

  1. Create Safety First
    Before diving into decision-making, ensure that you feel safe in your body. This will allow you to engage with your bodily sensations without fear or anxiety. Safety can be created through grounding exercises, creating a physical space that feels secure, or using techniques such as deep breathing to calm the nervous system.

  2. Connect with Your Body
    Begin by connecting with your body. This might involve practices like yoga, dance, or simply sitting quietly and focusing on your breath. The goal is to become present and aware of the sensations in your body, acknowledging any tension, discomfort, or ease you may feel.

  3. Reflect on Your Desires and Obstacles
    Consider your desires and what obstacles might be blocking you from achieving them. Reflect on how these desires and obstacles make you feel in your body. Notice where you might hold tension when you think about certain choices or where you feel expansion and lightness.

  4. Body Wisdom
    Your body has innate wisdom that can guide you toward the right decisions. Learn to differentiate between fear-based reactions and genuine bodily intuition. For example, a gut feeling or a sense of openness in the heart can be indicators of your body signaling a ‘yes’ to a particular choice.

  5. Practise Mindfulness and Somatic Activated Healing™

  9. Experience Joy and Pleasure
    Lastly, allow joy and pleasure to guide you. Decisions that lead to a sense of joy and pleasure are often the ones that align most closely with our deepest needs and desires. Pleasurable sensations in the body can be a powerful indicator that you're on the right path.


By following these somatic principles, you can begin to make decisions that are more aligned with your inner truth. Remember, the key is to connect with your body, recognize its signals, and honor what it's telling you. This way, you can move forward with confidence, knowing that your choices resonate with the deepest parts of who you are.
